What is titanium boreide?

Titanium boride is the most stable of all compounds containing boron or titanium. It has a C32-structure and is combined as valence bonds. It is a hexagonal metalloid. The crystal structure is composed of a and C. a is 0.3028nm. The crystal structure is a network of covalently-bonded boron and titanium atoms. An extra electron creates a large p-bond. This graphite like layered structure between boron electrons and Ti outer layers determines TiB2’s metallic luster, good conductivity and high hardness.

Castables and the influence of the titanium boride amount

The carbon in the injectable material can improve the material’s corrosion resistance and thermal shock stabilization, as well as reduce structural spalling. Castables will suffer from carbon oxidation. TiB2 is widely used in ceramics and corundum materials with good results. However, it has not been studied as much in castables. The effect of TiB2 additive on the properties iron trough castables was studied for this reason.

ASC iron-ditch castings were prepared to increase the oxidation resistance using brown corundum particles fused with SiC powders and particles, white corundum dust, Secar71, silicon, spherical powder + silicon, as main raw materials. The white powder of corundum was substituted with titanium boride, in different mass fractions, of 0, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2.0%, and its influence on the castable properties was investigated. The results show with an increase in the amount of TiB2, the linear change after 3 hours at 1000 or 1500 first decreases then increases. Bulk density first increases then decreases. Appearance porosity decreases then increases. The oxidation resistant increases first and then decreases. Addition of TiB2 at 1% (w) can give the highest high-temperature flexural resistance. Addition of 1% (w), TiB2, can give a sample a more comprehensive index.
