sodium hydrogen carbonate melting point, also known as bicarbonate of soda (NaHCO3) or baking soda, is a white crystalline or powdery solid with the chemical formula NaHCO3. It has a slightly alkaline taste and is a component of the mineral nahcolite, which is found in many mineral springs.

Baking Soda:

Often used as a leavening agent in the making of bread and cakes, it is also a component of soda acid fire extinguishers. These extinguishers consist of two canisters that hold a solution of sodium hydrogen carbonate and sulfuric acid.

The acid reacts with the soda solution, releasing a large amount of carbon dioxide gas when the knob is pushed. This gas blocks air supply to the burning material and lowers the ignition temperature, putting out the fire.

Uses:

Besides being used in dry chemical fire extinguishers, Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate is used to control fungal growth, as it can absorb odors. Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate is also used in toothpaste and medicine, as it can help reduce stomach and urinary acidity.

It can also be used to control the growth of insects and as a natural insecticide. Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate has an excellent antiseptic property that is especially useful for cleaning skin wounds and infections, as it helps to kill germs.

Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate has been shown to be a very effective solid-solid reaction sorbent for the removal of HCl and SO2 from industrial flue gas streams. However, its reactivity has been poorly characterized in the literature. Hence, the aim of this study was to clarify the temperature dependence of its reactivity towards these compounds in the range between 120 and 300 degC. The results indicate that thermal activation plays a key role in the reactivity of NaHCO3 towards these species and that reactivity of activated NaHCO3 declines rapidly with increasing reaction temperature.
